Thinking ahead, Dark Valentine Magazine is planning a first anniversary anthology of all-new stories and art, to be published in the spring of 2011. In the tradition of Ellen Datlow’s great anthologies, we would like it to have a theme. The theme has to accommodate the range of genres we promote, so something like Starships & Stalagmites won’t really work.
We’ve had a couple of ideas but we’d really like to hear what you have to say. You may be saying, “What’s in it for me Dark Valentine? The answer is books. And swag. And whatever else we have access to.
Here’s how we’d like it to work. You send us your ideas. At the end of September, we’ll pick the best of “reader’s choice” and then hold a vote. Even if we don’t pick your idea, the top three contenders will get a gift pile of dark fiction and a Dark Valentine coffee mug. (You can never have too many coffee mugs, can you?) And to go with the coffee mug, we’ll throw in a Starbucks card to fill it.
We want this to be an amazing anthology and amazing anthologies begin with amazing themes. Dazzle us!
Thank you.

‘Under the Stars’
It would represent a fairly comprehensive spectrum.
Under the Stars goes well with another suggestion we had, “Constellations.” It also has that biblical feel of “as on earth/under heaven.” Thanks for the suggestion. Keep them coming.
Duality. A while back I tried to get writers on board a collection of stories that involved only two people and had to be one continuous scene.

What about EQUINOX? I love words with an X in them. X is a stealth letter. It doesn’t have a sound of its own but borrows from CK or Z depending–Parallax, Xenotype. And names that begin with X are just bad-ass. Xavier. Xerxes.
I really like Equinox. And I bet one of your amazing artists could come up with a stunning cover design as well.
I just found your site today. Evryone has some great names already. How about sanctuary or Phoenix?
I propose Sinners and Saints.
I have a plaque on my wall that reads “Every Sinner has a Future, every Saint has a Past”
Opposites attract, in books, in life, and even to books (how many times have you found someone you would have *never* expected to have been reading *that* book?). I personally LOVE it when someone I know walks up to me and strikes up a conversation over a book that we are mutually reading/have read where maybe before we didn’t have that much in common. It opens up whole new worlds of discussions that we can have together, because we have read the same material. We now have a place to start from.
Also I like;
Vamps, Were’s and Ghosts, Oh My!
I must admit, it has a special little place in my heart, though anything we pick will leave someone’s baby, their favorite book, out in the cold.
Constellations just make me think of Tarot cards and New Age sites. Doesn’t mean they’re bad ideas, just that I’ve seen them elsewhere.
That’s what majority rules is for, right? *grins*
